Kevin Duckworth died yesterday on the Oregon coast at the age of 44. I found out in the news on ESPN sports ticker last night. Apparently 911 had been called while he was on the property of the Salish lodge but he was already down and couldn't be revived.
The news has not release the cause of death yet, He was a shy man but a very kind man with a huge heart.
I'm blessed that I had the chance to really know him for over a decade and been to both of his homes in both Beaverton, Oregon and Beaver Creek, Oregon just outside of Oregon City. Although he played in the NBA for 11 years, basketball was not his true love. He was an out outdoorsman and loved living in the northweest. He was a big hunter and fisher. He went to college @ Eastern Illinois for Carpentry and Woodworking which I was lucky to see some of his work. He had a love for big boy toys and exotic animals from all over the world.
He leaves behind family in Oregon and Illinois. My condolensces go out to his Family, friends and former teammates. He was truly a genuine person and will sorely be missed.
